We have a fantastic group of dedicated volunteers, which without them we simply couldn’t continue to provide such a high level of patient care and support. Our volunteers are vital to the work of The Wisdom Hospice and each play an integral role in running of the Wisdom Hospice.
We are always looking for new people to join our team – just a few hours of your time will make a huge difference.
The Friends increasingly need more and more volunteers to support our fundraising work.
Volunteer at our Fundraising Events, Restoration House, local community Events, Bucket Collections or become a marshal at one of our landmark events. We have something for everyone.
As a hospice volunteer you will work alongside our staff as part of a professionally trained and skilled workforce enhancing and supporting the delivery of high quality care. This can be either through direct contact with patients and their carers or as part of the invaluable workforce operating behind the scenes to support services.
There are many varied roles we can offer you as a volunteer, including; specialist positions such as a complimentary therapist, bereavement counsellor, driving patients and assisting with administrative tasks. At present we are particularly looking for volunteers to cover the following positions
Reception Desk Volunteer - Monday afternoons from 1pm-5pm to assist with the meeting and greeting of visitors to the Hospice. In the event of the telephonist being absent from the switchboard to be confident in answering a call or taking a message. The key tasks of the role are to welcome all visitors, request them to sign in, check with the Ward staff if a patient is able to receive visitors, advise staff members of their visitors attending for clinic/therapy sessions, provide refreshments and assist with admin tasks if appropriate. We also require ad hoc reception desk volunteers to cover various other days.
Ward Helper Volunteers - Monday morning from 9am-1pm and an alternate Friday morning from 9am-1pm to assist the catering staff in serving refreshments to patients/visitors. The key tasks are to assist with menu choice, wash and refill water jugs, prepare and serve hot drinks from the trolley, assist with preparation of food trays, serving meals to patients and collecting trays after meals. We also require ad hoc volunteers to cover various other daytime hours.
Complementary Volunteer Therapists - To work with patients in our Wellbeing and Therapies Centre during the hours of 10-3pm Monday to Friday, flexible days or times to fit.
Volunteer Drivers - To transport our patients to and from our Wellbeing and Therapy Centre for 10am and 3pm Monday to Friday.
Volunteer Drivers - To transport our patients to and from our clinic appointments, flexible weekdays and times to fit.
Volunteer in our Shop - Join our team
We need enthusiastic and reliable volunteers to help maximise sales, which will help to fund the running of the hospice.
Tasks may include:
- Sorting clothes
- Serving customers
- Pricing goods
- Cleaning & preparing goods for sale
- Creating window displays
Training will be provided, and time commitment is flexible. We will also be able to provide a reference to prospective employers.
This is a great opportunity to gain and develop your experience in the competitive retail sector, make new friends, and help The Wisdom Hospice provide specialist palliative care to patients with life limiting conditions.
